Underneath each sturdy structure is a solid foundation. Therefore, underneath each well-structured counseling program is also a solid foundation.
The mission statement and philosophy are the underlying foundation of Blue Rock Secondary School’s counseling program (see Home and Mission Page). After a good foundation is set, a needs assessment is used to determine the appropriate programming and course of action for the counseling program. This needs assessment will serve as a basis for lessons and other programming as it shows us what our students, parents, and other stakeholders need most from our school counseling program.
Blue Rock Secondary School also frequently utilizes the ASCA (American School Counselors Association) national model of school counseling as a reference (ASCA, 2005) to make certain that we are aligning our program with what is appropriate for each domain (see Delivery System Page) and ethical for each of our stakeholders. The ASCA National Model serves as a guide for how a school counseling program should be run. In addition to guiding school counseling programs, it also sets forth expectations which each program works towards meeting.
